What is a vehicle modification?
First, let's define what a modification is. According to Royal Decree 866/2010, it is any modification, replacement, action, incorporation, or deletion made to a vehicle after its registration (for light trailers after being authorized to circulate) that changes any of its characteristics.
Importing a vehicle from outside the EU

LEGALIZATION OF THE MODIFICATION IN ITV

INSPECTION OF A MODIFICATION
The steps to receive the homologation certificate for vehicles are as follows:
- Documentary inspection: it is checked that the documents provided are adequate according to current regulations. Normally these are the following, although they may vary depending on the type of modification.
- Vehicle documentation: technical sheet and registration certificate.
- Technical project: a report made by an engineer detailing the purpose of the modification, that is, all the details related to its realization. Normally, the technical project is necessary when the modification requires technical analysis and calculations.
- Conformity report: a laboratory or the vehicle manufacturer certifies that the proposed modification in the technical project can be carried out.
- Workshop certificate: once the modification is approved, the workshop is the one that applies the modifications to the vehicle and provides the certificate that the work has been completed.
- Final work report: the engineer who carried out the technical project must prepare a final document approving the entire work. If you are the owner, you must present your ID. If you are not, the person who appears at the ITV station must go with their ID and authorization from the vehicle owner to process the modification.
- Physical inspection: the modifications made are evaluated thoroughly to ensure that they have been carried out according to the documentation provided and that the vehicle still meets the minimum safety requirements.
