More drivers are exceeding speed limits
A DGT campaign has revealed concerning figures regarding the increase in drivers exceeding speed limits. There has been an increase of up to 15% in speed checkpoints and 25% in vehicles monitored.
Campaign
The DGT's monitoring and enforcement campaign, carried out last month, lasted seven days. During the campaign, Guardia Civil officers set up 2,274 speed checkpoints and monitored 747,303 vehicles. This represents a 25% increase compared with the checks carried out the previous year.
More accidents
This campaign was reinforced due to the increase in road accidents since the beginning of the year. As a result, the number of checks on high-speed roads has increased by up to ten percentage points, where 54.4% of all checks are now carried out.
Results
Of a total of 42,202 drivers, 5.6% were travelling above the permitted speed limit, four tenths of a percentage point more than in 2021.
In addition, 5 drivers reported for speeding were brought before the courts for committing a road safety offence by exceeding the established speed limit by more than 80 km/h.
