La señal V20
V20 plate or sign is the name given to the square marker with diagonal red and white stripes that indicates the presence of loads protruding between 10% and 15% beyond the length of the vehicle.
Regulations
The use of the V20 sign is mandatory, which means that the plates you use must also be approved. The General Traffic Regulations govern the requirements and approval of V20 plates.
In the case of passenger cars, the V20 sign must be placed at the rear of the vehicle.
Vans or lorries used to transport goods may also carry loads at the front and sides.
Remember to keep both the number plate and rear lights visible at all times; any obstruction that makes them difficult to see may result in a fine.
Placement
If the load does not exceed the width of the vehicle, a single plate will be sufficient.
Otherwise, two plates must be fitted, with their stripes forming an inverted V. (Remember, however, that the load must never extend beyond the wing mirrors).
On passenger cars, the V20 plate is most commonly used to indicate the presence of a bicycle rack. There are different types: roof-mounted, tailgate-mounted or towbar-mounted. To secure the load, use straps, elastic cords, cable ties or similar items that ensure it is firmly attached.

Carrying a load entails additional responsibility when driving on the road. Both individual and collective safety are at stake.
At Applus+, we work to ensure maximum safety on the country's roads. For this reason, approved V20 signs are available at our stations.
Book your ITV appointment, secure your load and enjoy the journey.
